Before getting the independence to India from British rule Great visionary saint of India ,Rashtrasant Tukdoji Mahraj laid the foundation stone of Ayurved education by establishing the Shri Gurudeo Ayurved College in 1944 at Gurukunj Ashram to promote Indian system of Medicine to educate, evaluate Ayurveda to the masses of country. Rashtrasant Tukdoji Mahraj was a pioneer to frame curriculum of short term Courses of Ayurveda education at Gurukunj Ashram in 1944. Ayurved Sevadhikari,Ayurved Pracharak and Ayurved Sevak were the names of short term courses of Ayurved education in Gurukunj Ashram. Thousands of Ayurvedacharya were imparted Ayurved education through this college.
Later in 1959 formally college was appropriately registered to the Government authority, it is renowned, oldest and trusted Ayurved College of Vidarbha region of Maharashtra with well-equipped College, Hospital & in-house Pharmacy.College has well equipped 14 departments with well qualified teaching and other dedicated staff. .From the establishment of the college thousands of Ayurvedacharyas (BAMS students ) got pass out from this institute up till now and serving the society with noble message of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj i.e.due to poverty nobody of the society should be remain without medical treatment and medicine. ( ना औषधी मिळती कुणा तैसेची कंठती जिवना, या दिन लोकांची दया घे ! राव रंक सज्जना ) following this message of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj and path of service of marginalized shown by him Shri Gurudeo Ayurved college and Hospital untiringly providing medical facilities to the masses at large from the inception of the institute. College and hospital have been registered and approved by appropriate authority and having permission by NCSIM,New delhi .College is affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik .
Specific Objectives of Shri Gurudeo Ayurved College
- To build up skilled Ayurvedic Professionals, Trainers and Researchers for the progression of Ayurvedic System.
- To create global awareness in ancient principles of Ayurveda and its practices.
- To provide authentic Ayurvedic health care to the community.
- To train the undergraduate students in the fundamentals of both theoretical and clinical aspects of Ayurveda so that they can confidently practice as a general physician.
- To introduce and involve undergraduate students in research activities and scientific presentations.
- To promote all-round development of the students, not only in academics but also in overall personality development so that they can meet challenges in all walks of life.
- To create awareness regarding Ayurvedic lifestyle, Diet, and Yoga and provide health care services at the community level through well organized and sustained outreach programs.
- To provide extensive training for faculty in teaching and hospital management.
- To ensure maximum participation of students and faculty in community medicine by organizing extensive activities like health camps, awareness programs etc.
